Quote of the Day

Says Mr. Warren Adler in a comment over at Ward Six:

"Flush your rejections down the toilet. Above all do not let the bastards beat you down. I have survived five decades of rejections and most of the rejectors are now either drunks, dead, or in real estate."

God, the last thing some of the special snowflakes at this site need is more encouragement. Sorry, the world doesn't owe you anything, nor is everybody out to get you.

Maybe not, but we are "special little snowflakes," aren't we? I love that expression. Thank you, disapproving anonymous. I'm going to try to use it in sentences all day long whenever possible.

Anonymous, help us out then. When you read our submissions, be honest about your opinions of our work, stand by them, and send us a copy in your reply, will you? Don't just hide behind the form letter.

My former agent is out of the business (and is now running his own retail shop)--amd the agency he was part of has vanished. He was a nice guy...but this makes it clear to me that I need to remember that I write because I love it. People who sell writing may not love it. They may just be selling something: books, used cars, real estate, whatever.

Business aside, the ecstasy is still in the creation. Real writers know this. Thankfully, there will never be a shortage of them.
