Still, I find myself wasting entire days on short stories. Today, for example, I spent 2 hours searching for one perfect way to end a paragraph in such a story.
Anon: I consider writing stories and essays to be part of the creative process called "writing a novel." I wrote two other books while writing my novel. for me, I need to give my brain another focus or two. That's just me, I guess. I am writing the perfect ending to a story or trying to figure out what the essay I feel compelled to write is about, but all the while in the far back of the brain, I am thinking about the novel. I am never not thinking about the novel when I'm writing it. I have a friend who says, "Everything is part of the creative process." That means watching TV, shopping at the grocery store, going for a run. It all feeds the brain that is writing the novel. So little of it seems to actually happen on the page. It's a strange experience.
Hardly sounds like wasting time when you look at it that way.
