How many years have they been talking about "today's extremely competitive market"? Now it's just dead. Funny how this is precisely the moment I finally finish my own novel. (Ta-da, everybody...radio silence.)

I wish they'd be specific about what they DO want. They must have something in mind. I'd bet they're looking for books that are basically Hollywood screenplays -- lots of dialog, rising action, big flashy finish -- because move rights are where the $$ is these days.
LROD, You've just gotta read How I Became a Famous Novelist. It's a very funny novel that skewers the industry thoroughly. The guy comes up with a formula for bestsellers that works. At the end he rejects his cynicism for the required transcendent moment, but I don't believe it. I think as the cynic who writes a spoof on bestsellers might be the truth...and of course, the author will never tell us to our satisfaction that he's having us on...
Please go read it. You sound down and it will definitely make you feel better.

Good luck with your next project. Just keep going.
Oh, yeah. I've got dozens of these. They do get tedious ...
