The More Online Magazines To Reject You With

Narrative Magazine is seeming more and more like a New Yorker wannabe, no?  (Plus I get an email from Narrative every 3 1/2 minutes.) If that's not confusing enough, Esquire now has an online fiction section, a bit reminiscent of the Narrative enterprise, in that your chance of getting published is pretty darn slim. They publish the likes of Stephen King and Don Delillo, but they also have a fiction contest you might like to enter.

Doncha remember that Esquire doesn't publish good fiction anymore?

Go read the King and Delillo stories ... you'll see they're obvious castoffs. Also read the rules to the fiction contest, you are required to actually give them your copyright! Something that King and Delillo sure didn't have to do. Sorry I might not be as famous as them but I'm unwilling to sit in the back of the bus / use a separate water fountain for the same privilege of being in Esquire. Also as noted before, compare Esquire's fiction of yesteryear with what they do now. Worlds apart.

yeah but it would still be a good cred.

W,R..for a newbie what do you think of trying some flash online markets just to get some creds. Waste of time or good idea?

Good idea as long as flash fiction is something you're interested in exploring whether you get published or not. Otherwise, waste of time.

I wonder if the winner could maybe negotiate that selling-all-your-rights thing. That seems more like a bargaining position, not a fixed price. Well, at least I would try to bargain. If I won. (yeah right)
