This is a new one: your work "lies outside our publishing program." Funny how many different ways people think up to say -- what? Not for us? Not good enough? Not a prayer? Who knows?
It sounds like they're saying: "Dear Madame, I currently maintain two piles of manuscripts on my desk. The first contains the pieces we plan to publish. As it turns out, your manuscript resides in the other pile." As if it's totally out of their control or something...
At first I interpreted this as the work was not suited for Tyndale (they're focused on conservative evangelical Christian readers, as I recall—I used to work for a company which did their CD-ROM products), but reading it again, I'm realizing it's a painfully awkward way of saying no.
