Bury Your Unpublished Novel

After pitching her novel to sixteen New York publishers, Mary Patrick Kavanaugh buried her dream (and the novel) in an open casket funeral in Oakland on December 6.  She invites you to join her at MyDreamIsDeadButImNot.com.  She even offers you a free tip sheet entitled "Six Easy Ways to Overcome Dead Dreams, Dashed Hopes, and Disappointments." You can buy her novel Family Plots at Amazon.  Now that's pluck!

Bear Books: More signs of fiction in recession. Found these at NYrkr following Mary's links:

The Economist names the best books of the year; only four novels make the cut.

And this priceless Mastercard opportunity:

On the heels of last week’s tumult in the publishing industry, Palgrave Macmillan has sent out a special offer to its authors: buy twenty-five or more copies of your own books and receive fifty-five per cent off the list price.

Hmm about the last one, you don't expect publishers to give authors unlimited free copies do you?

55% off 25 or more might be a good value to people who write non-fiction and need promotional giveaway copies. Authors have to do a lot of their own marketing these days.

Sounds like this is something I will be needing soon...

This is a bit over the top. Don't we all have a dead novel or two or three or four? In my case, I say: RIP.

I do think, though, that self-publishing is the wave of the future, what with the economy.

I looked but couldn't find an exerpt. There must be one somewhere, because who's going to buy a book based on self-generated hype alone?

rmellis, you can just read the amazon reviews her friends wrote. nothing beats a good testimonial written by objective parties.
