Kelly Spitzer has a post entitled
"Get Real: The Money Factor" about reading fees and contest entry fees. She asks a bunch of writers how much they are willing to pay and whether or not they submit only to magazines that pay the writer. Since this is a topic that comes up frequently on LROD, I thought I'd bring it to your attention.

Someone go spring this question on Ann Beattie, Joyce Carol Oates, and the other Name Brand writers who are in the new issue Narrative magazine. How much did they pay? Or did they agree to special treatment? Or did they not know that Narrative charges entry fees for non-famous writers?
No way in hell these famous writers PAID a penny to appear in the magazine. In fact, I bet they take the poor no-name money and pay it to the famous writers. That's how the world works, my friends. Very disappointing.
